Silverjet Ceases Trading 30th May – What are the Business Class Alternatives

Silverjet, the business class only airline has ceased trading as of 30th May 2008. It had been flying to New York and Dubai from London Luton with rave reviews from passengers. However since the price of oil jumped 41% in the last 6 months many airlines have found fuel costs unbearable.
Lawrence Hunt CEO of SIlverjet says “we are very sad to announce that from 30 May 2008, we will cease operations and we are no longer able to honour flight reservations”
Can you get a refund on flights already booked ?
Silverjet say “If you have paid by credit card, we suggest you contact your credit card company from whom you should be able to obtain a refund. If you have paid by debit card or charge card please contact ATOL, Section CAA, 49 – 59 Kingsway, London, WC2B 6TE. Alternatively, if you booked your flights through a travel agent or shipping company, please contact them for assistance”
This now means that all three business class only airlines flying out of London have folded … Silverjet joins EOS Airlines and Maxjet
Two other business class only operators in Europe remain - L’avion and PrivatAir. Privatair flies on behalf of Lufthansa, Swiss and KLM.
What are the Business Class Alternatives from London ?
Virgin Atlantic - Virgin has been quick off the mark. It has announced special one way fares from London Heathrow to New York and Dubai for Silverjet passengers. You need to show proof of your Silverjet booking at a Virgin travel desk.
- Upper Class London to New York is £899. New York to London USD 1399.

BA Business Only Flights from London City to New York Newark

BA is planning to fly Business Only flights direct from London City to New York in 2009 on Airbus A318 aircraft with 32 seats. The check-in at London City is planned to be only 15 minutes !!
The London to New York business only route will compete with the services already offered by Silverjet and EOS. Virgin and bmi are also thought to be working up similar plans but have yet to launch.
BA’s Willie Walsh announced: “This niche service will fly passengers between the heart of the two largest financial centres in the world”.
BA currently flies London Heathrow to JFK eight times a day and three times a day to Newark.
